I'm not quite sure when I stopped believing that I could be anything and do anything. I don't have a moment in my childhood or youth where I recall expressing some grand plan or vision for my future and having someone shoot it down and shame me into "getting real". I must have just caved and conformed and lowered my sights, quietly, without protest or drama. That's pretty effing embarrassing actually!
What I do recall is when I made the conscious decision to shed my limiting beliefs and live a life without regret. It started in Miami, with a friend, when she said, "I'd love to have a cleaner. It's on my Dream Line." Well, I was fortunate enough at the time to have a cleaner but I didn't have a Dream Line, didn't know what one was, but was pretty sure I wanted one! There began a journey of discovery, education, and a reborn belief that, not only was I enough, I was capable of living an extraordinary life if I simply dared to believe it - and take action!
Here's a great quote that I came across just today from a 1995 interview with Steve Jobs which really synthesizes the point:
"Life can be much broader, once you discover one simple fact, and that is that everything around you that you call 'life' was made up by people that were no smarter than you. And you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use. Once you learn that, you'll never be the same again."
So why not you? Why the Hell not you?
Some people will find a way while others will always find an excuse. Their circumstances may be identical. Their outcomes - worlds apart. So, if you want to find a way, but are feeling a little lost or unsure which direction to go in, I have a couple of suggestions for you which I found incredibly useful.
- Take a blank piece of paper. Divide it into 3 sections and label them - BE, DO, HAVE. Now write down everything you want to be, do and have in your life. Dream big! Don't down-size your life view. Remember our aim is a life without regrets. You won't regret shooting for something awesome and not quite hitting the mark. Let's face it, somewhere a little short of "awesome" is bound to be pretty great right?!

I discovered that I had to do something to leave this world better for my children. I was passionate about women's rights and eradicating the horrors that result from the disempowerment of women globally. Founding PEBBLE + ROSE to support the charity Global Fund for Women is the result of my journey to discover my purpose and live life at my highest level.
When you begin your journey, your purpose will reveal itself. As the famous Chinese proverb says,
"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."
You just need to commit to that first step. Will you?
