It's the Holiday Season and, if you're anything like me, you're nowhere near finished your gift shopping. Some people are just harder to buy for than others. So, if you have any strong-willed, fabulous feminist women on your gift list this year I'm here to humbly offer up some suggestions for how to bring a smile to even the most discerning badass woman's face on Christmas morning. Here's my Top 10 which includes books, apparel, wine, cosmetics, soaps, and accessories!
1. Women and Power: A Manifesto - Mary Beard
Smart women read a lot and Mary Beard's new book is already being described as, "A modern feminist classic." It's out in paperback since early November but push the boat out and buy her the hardback. Some books deserve it and this is definitely one of them. Due out on December 12th.
"When it comes to silencing women, Western culture has had thousands of years of practice"
Mary Beard is an English scholar and is Professor of Classics at the University of Cambridge in the UK. She has authored many books on ancient Greek and Roman history, most notably perhaps the New York Times bestseller, SPQR: A History of Ancient Rome. She is very active on Twitter and was a speaker at last year's Women in The World Conference in New York where she recounted a very interesting and amusing story of being trolled on Twitter and then having one of her followers tell her she knew who the, sexist, troll was and could give Beard his mother's phone number!

2. Wise Women: A Celebration of Their Insights, Courage and Beauty
This is a great coffee table book, although I wasn't able to find it in hardback when I ordered mine. Photographer Joyce Tenneson presents 80 portraits of women aged 65 to 100 who comment on their experiences of life and aging. The portraits are captivating and Tenneson features a broad range of captivating subjects including musicians, writers, actors, dancers, activists, and politicians.
As women age they are often ignored in our society. We speak of "wise" or "mature" men. We have countless ways to disparage older women. I like to refer to older women as the "Elders of The Sisterhood". Age is not something to fear. It is a gift and it's time to shun any narrative that seeks to shame women who dare to age!

3. Rose of Damascus Hand Carved Soap - Senteurs D'Orient
Yes, it's "soap on a rope" but that's just at first glance. Let me tell you a story about this company. Senteurs D'Orient is a wonderful Mother - Daughter business, Hanna and Sarah. Inspired by her love of the ancient traditions and bathing rituals of the Orient, Hanna founded this business to create beautiful hand crafted soaps, infused with the highest quality scents of the blossoms and flowers of the region. All the soaps are handcrafted and hand wrapped by local artisans in Lebanon, home to a 6,000 year old tradition of soap-making.
The best part? This mother daughter business has a sharp focus on giving back to women and supports key activities of the United Nations Development Goals, specifically Goal # 5, Gender Equality, through their "Senteurs Women's Initiative". A perfect business for any feminist to support.

4. All I Want For Christmas Brush Bundle - Thrive Causemetics
I love this company because they make beautiful products ethically and are born of compassion and purpose. Founder Klarissa Bodnar lost her dear friend Kristy at the tragically young age of just 24 to cancer. Thrive Causemetics describes itself as "Beauty with a Purpose". Not only are all of the company's products vegan, 100% cruelty free, and free of any nasty toxins, parabens, or sulfates, they give back to women too. Yay!! For every product you purchase Thrive Causemetics donates one to a woman thriving through cancer or domestic violence.
I chose this brush set for my wish list this Christmas and it comes with a cute bag as a bonus. These brushes are also dummy-proof, with cute sayings on each to make sure you're using the right one. Perfect for me! The contour brush says, "I Came, I Saw, I Contoured". Love it!! There's so many fabulous options from this brand though you're sure to find something amazing.

5. "Actually, I Can" Silver Pendant Necklace - PEBBLE + ROSE
This solid silver pendant necklace is one from the new range of Intention Pendants from PEBBLE + ROSE. The signature rose is engraved on one side, "Actually, I Can" on the other. I wear mine every day and chose the longer chain option. I usually wear it with the writing facing inward and flip it around to read throughout the day whenever I need a little "belief re-fueling".
Designed by women, hand-crafted by a female artisan here in the US, this pendant also gives back to women. PEBBLE + ROSE donates to Global Fund for Women with every purchase, helping to support women's rights groups in over 170 countries. A great gift for the conscientious feminist consumer.

6. Statement Gold Cascading Earrings - PEBBLE + ROSE
Every woman needs a pair of statement earrings for special occasions. I personally love large earrings like this that make an impact, but that aren't so heavy they pull on your ears and you end up having to take them out mid-evening. Just me? Made in Italy and plated in 14K gold they're perfect for the Holiday Season and beyond.
PEBBLE + ROSE believes that the fight for gender equality globally is complex enough so supporting that cause should be as easy and enjoyable as possible. These earrings, and every product from the brand, give back to women through the PEBBLE + ROSE 10% donation pledge to Global Fund For Women.

7. My Own Words - SCJ Ruth Bader Ginsburg
Let's face it, this woman is a national treasure. Only the second woman to be nominated a Supreme Court Justice, Ginsburg was nominated by President Clinton in June of 1993 and confirmed to the Court in September of that year. This is her first book since joining the court and Amazon describes it as,
A witty, engaging, serious, and playful collection of writings and speeches from the woman who has had a powerful and enduring influence on law, women’s rights, and popular culture.
A must read from one of the most influential women of our time. Not only is she razor sharp intellectually, Ginsburg is fit as a fiddle at 84 years of age thanks to a very healthy diet and her regular workouts with her personal trainer.

8. Wine! Nasty Woman Wines (Willamette Valley, Oregon)
Now you can drink and support women's rights all at the same time. Women are such great multitaskers!! Nasty Woman Wines was founded on Election Day 2016, when founder Meg Murray hoped to be raising a glass to celebrate the first woman President. Hmm...This woman did not let that disappointment stop her. She got busy as all fabulous women do when faced with challenges and disappointment.
Nasty Woman Wines describes itself as
committed to creating progressive wines that help get women to the table as leaders and tastemakers
They donate 20% of net profits to organizations and causes that help drive their mission including the Women In Public Service Project which aims to increase the number of women in public service leadership positions by 50% by 2050.
Why not try their Pantsuit Pinot Noir -
Pairings: Perfect for a night with friends as well as discussions of equal pay and how to get more women to the table in policy and leadership positions. And cheese, of course, it pairs well with cheese.
There's also "Boss Lady Bubbles", "Pave The Way Chardonnay" and many more for your delectation. AND there's a #GetNasty Wine Club.... I'm soo signing up!
The Pantsuit Pinot Noir is $25.00 but when you join the #GetNasty Wine Club you can get 10% off and 50% off ground shipping when you order 6 or more bottles, which is, let's face it, the perfect dinner party number of bottles to order, so a no brainer!

9. The Unity Long Sleeved Shirt - PEBBLE + ROSE
For me, a big part of what Feminism, or The Sisterhood, means is what we all share in common. Although I identify very much with the "Nasty Woman", and know that I am among my people whenever I see a woman wearing a T-shirt or sweater with that phrase, I never wanted to wear one. The Unity Shirt from PEBBLE + ROSE is about just that, unity. I don't think we win by telling those who don't agree with us how wrong they are. I think we move forward towards a more equal society by recognizing the full equality and humanity of each individual. Overly simplistic? Maybe, but it's a much more positive and hopeful message and it doesn't make the wearer any less a force to be reckoned with.
I wear both these styles and love how soft and comfortable they are. They wash really well and keep their shape. Go up a size in the T-shirt if you prefer a roomier fit but the long-sleeve is a unisex design so, in the photo, I'm wearing a small whereas I'd normally wear a medium. Super comfortable and it's a shirt with a message that provokes positive discourse, which is something we need a lot more of these days.
These shirts, like all of the products in the PEBBLE + ROSE range, give back to support the global struggle for gender equality through the stellar work of the Global Fund for Women. The Fund identifies seed, grassroots organizations and local cause champions in countries all over the world who are working to further rights, resources and opportunities for girls and women. They provide grants, guidance and support and are laser focused on impact.

10. What Happened - Hillary Rodham Clinton
In the past, for reasons I try to explain, I've often felt I had to be careful in public, like I was up on a wire without a net. Now I'm letting my guard down.
Many of us were sorely disappointed not to be celebrating the election of America's first female president last November, but none more so that Hillary Clinton. I picked this book up last weekend and haven't read it yet but feel I absolutely must.
Hillary Clinton's run for the highest office in the land evoked a huge backlash and revealed the ugly underbelly of misogyny and sexism still rife in our country. Do you have to love Hillary Clinton just because you're a woman? No. Was she more qualified and fit to lead than the Republican candidate? Absolutely. So..."what happened" was on many lips and minds post-election. Any feminist is more than a little curious to read Hillary Clinton's perspective.

So there you have it, there's still plenty of time to pick up something special and meaningful for that woman or those women on your list this Holiday Season.
Remember also that no woman does it alone, however outwardly successful or together she may look. We all need our sisters and this time of year can be particularly difficult for many people.
So...Smile at strangers, Offer a kind word, Be nice to someone for no reason
Put down your phone and be present, Try something completely new
And, Happy Holidays!!
